AGE OF DAMAGE

This is a war that has been waiting to happen
They don’t love each other and never did
They are not forgiving each other deeds overlapping
Generations whose hatred they never hid

They send missiles to greet each other
The way you and I send words to one another
When we’re angry and pain does not bother
To differentiate between strangers and brothers

It is the age of damage
The stage of rage and carnage
Angry birds in an iron cage
Trapped in rampage.

PIECE OF YOUR HEART

PIECE OF YOUR HEART.

Chorus
Just a give me a piece of your heart and I will bite – 2x

Verse 1:
I love it when you run your fingers through my hair
I love it when you plant your kisses everywhere
I love it when you laugh at the silly things I do
I love it when you tell me how you love me too

Rpt CHORUS

Bridge 1:
There’s something about how you watch me – yeah yeah
There’s something about how you touch me – yeah yeah
There’s something about how you’re walking – yeah yeah
There’s something about how you’re talking – yeah yeah
Hauu.. hauu.. Hauu.. huhuhu..

Verse 2:
Your heart is sunshine when I’m feeling black and blue
Your smile is music when I don’t know what to do
Your kiss is magic when I need some company
Your eyes are full of what your heart is wishing me

Rpt CHORUS

Bridge 2:
A gentle piece, full of love like the gentle seas
Cool me down like a gentle breeze
I feel at home and at ease, so please
Take me in and never let me out
Teach me what love is all about
If I am down, share this ground with me
When the sun comes up then rise with me
And then
Hold me hold me, hold me hold me, hold me hold me, never never leave me – 3x
‘Cause I just need your company

Epilogue:
Piece of your heart… and I will bite… (rptdly)

PIECE OF YOUR HEART
Lyrics & Music (c) Che Chidi Chukwumerije.

AVERSION

It’s always amusing to me
When in the midst of a White Sea
I see one Black face
And when he or she sees me
They seem to panic visibly
And avert their face
Avoiding eye contact completely
And seem to be begging me
Not to look at their face
Immersed in their White company
Proving hard to them their loyalty.
To save their face
After looking at them thoughtfully
For a while, I walk past them gently
With a calm face
Because we don’t altercate publicly
We will do that when next we see
Face to face.

YOUR COLOURED SHELL

You‘ll be there sitting by yourself
And the world will come and meet you;
Your race will jump out like a shell
Between you and all that greet you;
Protecting you from some,
Separating you from some,
Making you invisible to many;
Making you scary to some,
Making you hated by some;
Making you a clichéd image to many;
Connecting you to others,
Uniting you with others,
Making you visible to this many.
And there’s nothing you can do about it
As if it were exactly how nature intended it.
You‘ll be there sitting by yourself
And the world will come and meet you.

YOUR STRENGTH

When they hit
The reason why it
doesn’t hurt is not
because it’s soft
but because you’re
tough to the core.

Laugh the loudest
When they hit you the hardest
Stand the proudest
When you face their mockery test

Your strength won’t bring you victory
Your strength IS your victory.

LAST LAST

Don’t try to make it straight and neat
Just simply try to make it complete
Do it all, everything, big and small,
Pride, they say, goes before a fall
So don’t freeze because you’re imperfect
For that’s just pride – so, check it.
Speak your mind even if with a shaky voice
If you can’t be quiet, make noise
If you don’t know who your true love is
Love them all who pull your heart’s strings
Change your path if need be
As often as you need in order to see
Follow your heart’s desires fully and truly
Even if you don’t know how to do it
Last last just do it anyhow any which way
Nwanne, live your life like say na play
Because, my G, nothing serious for dis world
Apart from di peace of your soul.

DON’T WAIT FOR PERFECTION

Don’t wait for perfection
Before you set off
Imperfection is what you need
To make you tough!
The world is wild and windy
The way is very rough
For the one who seeks fulfilment
This is enough.

THE STRANGE CHANGE

When the person you knew
disappears and is no more
than memories and pictures
and daily through the door
a stranger now in and out walks
while in the old voice of before
this stranger also with you talks
welcome to disorientation shore.

People really change,
it is no myth -
Experience totally today
the person you’re now with -
No human truly stays
a monolith.

TRUTH IS FOR THE BLIND

Only the blind can speak the truth
Caring not where it lands
Seeing not where it opens wounds
Even in one’s Beloved’s own hands

Only the blind can follow the truth
Minding not where it leads
Seeing not that an abyss sometimes looms
For people, like themself, of honest deeds

Only the blind can bear the truth
Unbothered by its origin
Seeing not the size of the mountain it moves
Or the people and things it’s crushing

Only the blind can see the truth
No matter how bright and blinding its light
For the truth-loving heart is forever full
Of bold and unfailing insight.

PERFECTION IS FOR THE COWARDLY

Perfection is for the cowardly
Perfection is for the vain
Perfection is for the insecure
Afraid of the rugged terrain

Perfection is for the talentless
Unable to handle the unknown
Perfection is for the clueless
For the lazy follower, the drone

Give me imperfection at dawn
The origin of the day and the way
Give me imperfection at dusk
The source of tomorrow’s dream.
