PRE-SENSING

You read me with your sixth sense
That’s going too far, I settle for less
I read you with my primitive sense
My pre-sense
Half of all communication is unintended
Life is beautiful if we express it
And even more beautiful if we let it express itself
Through us in us as us for us to us with us
Inspite of us
You are a poem writing itself daily
Your spirit, your thoughts, your emotions, your body
Are flowing with the inner river
Drawn to me
With the purest of primitive intentions.

HUSH

The red rush
Autumn is on the thrush
Mush mush
And a flush of lush
You are more than a crush
- Hush.
I can’t brush you aside.
I lied.

DUSKY

The wooded streets
heavy laden with evening tears
The dusk is wet with wanting
well within her weathered years
where everything longing meets
maturity already wears
with a battered beauty so haunting
for the bruises it softly bears.

CRAVINGS

When they‘re done with you
They hate you
For showing them their darker side
And showing them how much they love it.

Never talk to them in the open
Only in secret
That‘s when they love you
That‘s where they crave it.

YOU SAID

You said you were coming
I said I’d be waiting

You said you wouldn’t be long gone
I said I’d be waiting

You said it was only temporary
I said I’d be waiting…

Nine breaths
Nine years
Nine life-times

And I’m still waiting.

– Che Chidi Chukwumerije.

SEX AND UNHAPPINESS

How can that be?
All this intimacy
And still not happy

All these people
All these hearts
And still so lonely

All these words
All these conversations
And your life still has no meaning

When you’re not with the one you really need

And all that sex
Is just the expression
Of unhappiness.

– Che Chidi Chukwumerije.

SOFTLY, KILL

Not like that.
Crown the valley.
The hilltop is smoking.
Smoking gun.

Chewing gum.
Nonchalantly tracing and caressing your
Archipelago of feelings
Like a toy ship

Boning the corset
Gargle your gift of gab
Smiling to the ravine
Love is an aspic

Softly, steer
Softly, stir
Softly, pick
Softly, kill.

– Che Chidi Chukwumerije.

TAKE ME

Yes I’m a thief
I steal your heart
And you love it

And everytime I return it to you
You weep bitterly
And beg me to rob you again.

Beg harder.

– Che Chidi Chukwumerije.

ACHE

There is in me a longing
For a place
A longing which no place on earth
Can satisfy
Because I long for Home –

There is in me a yearning
For a love
A yearning which no human love
Can satisfy
Because I yearn for the Light –

But, on the other side of
The mountain peak
There is a woman to whom my
Heart belongs…
But there she is, beyond my reach
Just a tear away –

But I do not know how to cry.

– Che Chidi Chukwumerije.

IRONY

Life can be a study in irony
The more people I know
The fewer friends I have
And when the night loves me
It fills me cruelly with loneliness
For it wakes me up in the dark quiet hours
But makes no effort to satisfy me
And the more I get the things I desire
The more I realise that what I really desire
Is something that already I have.
