Liars will always lie - That is their truth. Winners will always try - Without expecting ruth. Lovers will always laugh and cry - That’s the secret of their youth. A giver is a river that’ll never run dry. Che Chidi Chukwumerije Poems from the inner river

MAY SONG
The children come out to play
And all is happy and gay
In the month of May.
The farmers make their hay
In the shinning sun’s ray.
Hand in hand as they go their way
Young lovers whisper what they have to say
On their way to hear the new priest pray.
And following the song of the stock-bird jay
Gentle old couples of yesterday
Quietly remember their youth today.
The essentials will stay
When all else goes away.
This is the song in the heart of May.

WRITERS AND LOVERS
I’ve never dated a writer
I wonder what it’s like
To both be awake, thinking
And writing in the night.
Will we share each other’s thoughts
Or keep our thoughts to ourselves?
Will we rejoice together
Or envy each other’s success?
Who will draw from whom
When both are needy?
Who will be the calming pole
When the writer gets crazy?
Who will write the greater poem
Into the book of life?
Greater than words on paper
And conquer inner strife.
Read my palm, it’s full of lines
Do not read between the lines
Between the lines are just packs of lies
Cleverly waiting to bait a writer’s eyes.

RIDE OUT
The way is “how”
Even more than “what”
Even more than “where”
“What” without “how”
Is religion, is dogma
Will chain the spirit
“Where” instead of “how”
Will never lead to
The answer of “why”
For it is the doing
By oneself that yields alone
The personal Understanding of “How”
Just do to me that thing
That makes my spirit light
And, deep in me, I’ll understand
The way
Who needs teachers
When we’ve got horses?
Just teach me how to ride
Or I’ll learn it myself
Then we’ll ride out together
And see for ourselves
What the world has to offer to
Seekers and lovers.

THE DRUMS OF WAR ARE SOUNDING
The drums of war are sounding
The dead are readying to dance a dirge
Upon the graves of the living
Quarrelling woman to Solomon has spoken
If I won’t have world peace my way
Then tear the child to pieces
Those who crave world dominion
Are set to fight to the end to end
The culture of mixed opinions
The world grows dark with worry
And mothers clutch their babes to their breasts
And lovers fear what tomorrow will bring.

BUT YOUR HEART WILL FIND ITS PLACE OF PEACE
Where are we rushing to?
Death is waiting at the end anyway
Go there slowly
Enjoy the ride
Take long looks out of the window
Drink in the sunshine
Drown the moon in your soul and laugh
Out loud
Let the passing flower and
The passing cloud leave an impression
Upon your memory.
Pain is our ally when we look for love.
Remember, you will make mistakes
You will hurt the people you love
And they will hurt you back
And Regret will not heal the wounds
Or make anything better
Only worse
But your heart will find its place of peace
Someday
Somewhere
Somehow
Because I love you.
Even when I’m dying, still I love you to the end.
